Present Moment Meditation

There will be many times during the Lunar Month where we will have to learn to stop and take a few moments of mindfulness. This quick guide will get you going on being more mindful of yourself and others during your day.

Take a few deep breaths and gently close your eyes. Allow your body to relax as you settle into a comfortable position.

1. Focus on Your Breath:
Begin by bringing your attention to your breath. Notice the sensation of the air entering your nose, filling your lungs, and then gently leaving your body. Don’t try to change your breath—just observe it. Let each inhale and exhale guide you into the present moment.

2. Feel Your Body:
Now, bring your awareness to your body. Notice the points where your body makes contact with the chair or floor. Feel the weight of your body being supported. Start with your feet and slowly scan upwards, noticing any areas of tension or relaxation. Simply observe these sensations without judgment.

3. Tune into Your Senses:
Shift your attention to what you can hear, smell, and feel around you. The sound of distant traffic, the hum of the air, the coolness of the air on your skin—acknowledge these sensations as they come and go. Let them anchor you in the here and now.

4. Let Go of Thoughts:
As you breathe, you may notice thoughts popping into your mind. This is natural. When thoughts arise, acknowledge them and gently let them go. Imagine them as clouds passing by in the sky. Return your focus to your breath and the sensations of the present moment.

5. Embrace the Now:
Allow yourself to simply be—here, in this moment. There’s no need to rush or worry about what comes next. Just be fully present with yourself, your breath, and this experience.

6. Slowly Return:
When you’re ready, slowly bring your awareness back to your surroundings. Wiggle your fingers and toes, stretch if you like. Take one last deep breath, and gently open your eyes.

Remember, this sense of calm and presence is always available to you. Take this feeling with you as you continue your day.
