In my exploration of physics, sacred geometry, astronomy, and statistics, I’ve gained a newfound appreciation for the elements that shape us and our world. Although I didn’t grasp the importance of chemistry in high school, I now see it as a key to understanding the natural laws of order in the universe.
Studying traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), I noticed a remarkable connection between the western periodic table and TCM’s concept of the 5 elements. Rather than dismissing Chinese medicine as outdated, I began to see it as a timeless reflection of our connection to nature and the laws that govern our lives and health.
While studying the I Ching, a Daoist philosophical text, I noticed a surprising match with our genetic DNA code. The five elements in Chinese medicine is an ancient correlation to the 5 elements in our DNA!!

Our health is closely linked to the natural forces shaping our genetic code. Our bodies, like sophisticated computers, carry an intelligent programming rooted in an electrical charge (electron) that our DNA produces. We are also coded by the elements of our environment as well.
It logically follows, that staying healthy means staying in harmony with nature—the original code, or the way, or the Dao. These connections are even reflected in our economic trend tracker called the “DOW,” while nature’s trend tracker is the “Dao.” The elements that make up the world around us also heals us.
Here are some interesting correlations between the five elements in DNA and the five elements in Chinese medicine:
- Carbon (C) and Earth Element:
Carbon, which forms the backbone of DNA, provides stability. In Chinese medicine, Earth represents stability and nourishment. Just as carbon forms the foundation of DNA, Earth is the stabilizing force in the five-element theory. - Hydrogen (H) and Water Element:
Hydrogen is essential for forming hydrogen bonds, much like water’s role in bonding and connecting different elements in the natural world. Water in Chinese medicine is associated with adaptability and flow, which is similar to hydrogen’s role in connecting and enabling DNA replication. - Oxygen (O) and Metal Element:
Oxygen is critical for energy and is often associated with life-giving properties. In Chinese medicine, the Metal element is linked to the lungs taking in oxygen, as oxygen plays a vital enlivening role in the DNA molecule. - Nitrogen (N) and Wood Element:
Nitrogen forms the genetic code with its nitrogenous bases (A, T, C, G). In Chinese medicine, Wood is associated with growth and expansion, which parallels the idea of DNA’s role in the growth and development of living organisms. - Phosphorus (P) and Fire Element:
Phosphorus is involved in the energetic bonds of DNA. Similarly, Fire in Chinese medicine symbolizes energy, transformation, and warmth, echoing phosphorus’s role in the dynamic chemistry of life.
These correlations highlight how elements in the DNA molecule and elements in Chinese medicine are the same and produce balance and harmony in life, each in its unique way. It’s a fascinating connection between the microscopic world of genetics and the ancient wisdom of Chinese medicine.
